Chandragiri Fort, built in the 17th century, in Kasargod District near Chandragiri river. The fort is 46 m above sea level and occupies an area of about seven acres by the side of the river Payaswini. The river was the border between two erstwhile kingdoms - the Kolathunadu and Thulunadu. The fort offers a scenic view through the river and the Arabian Sea. You can experience the beauty by boat trips to nearby islands and palm groves.
When Thulunadu was captured by the Vijayanagara Empire, the Kolathunadu kings lost the Chandragiri region to them.Vijayanagara Empire declined during the 16thcentuaryandVengappa Nayaka declared independence. Later Shivappa Nayaka took over the reins. He built a chain of forts and Chandragiri is part of it.
