Thirunakkara Mahadeva temple dedicated to Lord Siva is located at Thirunakkara, in Kottayam district in kerala. The place where the temple is situated was once called 'NakkaraKunnu'. Art forms like Mayilattom, Velakali, Kathakaliperformances are conducted during the festival.  One of the native kings called the 'Thekkumkoor Raja' who ruled from Thalikkotta, west of the present citywas constructed this temple five centuries ago. We can seethe typical Kerala style of architecture in Thirunnakkara temple. Impressive images from the Hindu mythologydecorates the inner walls of the sanctum sanctorum (Sreekovil'). The white techi - a flowering plant belonging to the species ixora - (VellaChethi) seen to the north of the sanctum sanctorum and the stone image of the sacred bull, Nandi, which were also emerged spontaneously along with the Siva Linga are there in thirunnakkara temple. The three festivals celebrated in the ThirunakkaraMahadevar Siva Temple are Painkuni, Aani, Alpasi.
