Bekal Fort , is the largest fort in Kerala, situated at Bekal village in Kasaragod district, Kerala spreading over 40 acres. An important feature of this fort is the water-tank with its flight of steps. The fort has a tunnel opening towards the Observation Tower. From there one has an ample view of towns in the vicinity like Kanhangad, Pallikkara, Bekal, Kottikkulam, and Uduma. Bekal Fort Beach has been developed as an exotic beach location by the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation.

Bakel fort lies on the golden colored shore of Arabian Sea, which captivate numerous domestic as well as foreign tourists to the destination. Bekal fort is quiet vary from usual forts because of its architectural wonder, enormous space, deep beach view and interesting historical support. The destination is well accessible by air and road. Additionally, there are numerous good accommodation facilities in and around the fort including Vivanta By Taj Resort and Lalit Resorts.

Near the fort is an old mosque said to have been built by the valiant Tipu Sultan of Mysore. Built by the rulers of the ancient Kadampa dynasty, the fort changed hands over the years to the Kolathiri Rajas, the Vijayanagar Empire, Tipu Sultan and finally, the British East India Company.

Today, the Bekal fort and its surroundings are fast becoming an international tourist destination and a favourite shooting locale for film and ad makers. Bekal is also one of the five centres selected by the Government of India to be developed into a 'Special Tourism Area'.
