Oppana

Oppana is a traditional and an entertainment dance performed by the Muslim community in the Malabar region, as part of their wedding celebrations.. The word Oppana may have been derived from Arabic form Afna.  In Kerala this art form is having much popularity in performing stages of Youth Festivals of student community.Oppana is generally presented by females. The bride dressed in all jewels, covered with gold ornaments and her palms and feet adorned with an intricately woven pattern of mylanchi (henna), sits in the middle of the circle of dancers. During oppana the dancers sing, they clap their hands rhythmically and move around the bride using simple steps.And also there will be other singers to support the dancers.The language is a combination of Arabic and Malayalam.It usually takes place in the bride's residence where the marriage takes place.
