Poothanum Thirayum

Poothanum Thirayum is a custom traditional offering to Goddess Kaali is performed in numerous spots of South Malabar. A troupe of lovers of the dance floor take on the appearance of Kaali (the Thira) and the going hand in hand with spirits (the Poothams) who were made alongside the goddess for the annihilation of the fiendishness evil spirit, Daarikan. The Thira wear veils while the spirits wear semi-roundabout wooden crowns. The move is performed from house to house and on the premises of town hallowed places between November and May consistently.
